Colour Stitches Made by a Vdm Brush?

Hi. I made a vdm sculpting brush with this tutorial:

Create a Stitches sculpting brush in Blender

But how can I colour each stitch? Do I have to manually texture-paint each individual stitch? Or is there an easier way?
