combining armature with obj parented to empties

this is probably a stupid question to ask, but i was wondering whether combining armatures with objects parented to empties which control a mechanical rig may cause any issues?

or whether it would be easier to just use an armature?

my problem is that much of the movement requires objects to hinge on precise but abnormal axis. have been reading about pose and rest states and thought it may be an issue - still new to all this.


Armatures and their bone chains are extremely precise when it comes to rotations. You can also set joints to Hinge and use IK_Solvers. Theoretically you could combine the two approaches though I have no experience with that approach. The only advantage I’d give Empties is that their Euler-based IPO’s are easier to edit manually.
