Compilation of SAGE mathematics suite failed?

I have compiled SAGE, a mathematics suite.

I will tell how I have done that.
I applied the following 3 commands after unpacking the tar ball:

  • sudo apt-get upgrade && sudo apt-get install build-essential m4 gfortran

  • sudo apt-get install imagemagick texlive

  • make

While running the program I get an Import Error as you can see below.
Can someone tell me what the problem is?

terminal response:

tony@xp:~/Aplicaties/sage-4.6.2$ ./sage

| Sage Version 4.6.2, Release Date: 2011-02-25 |

Type notebook() for the GUI, and license() for information.

sage:

IMO building SAGE is a waste of time.
They offer VMs, binaries, packages and live cd´s.

I compiled it once becaues I needed a particular version and set it up as a server for my friends to use as well, that was under Debian Lenny and it worked right away. Can´t help you.

But just use the other options if you don´t absolutely need to build it.

Building SAGE might be a waste of time.
However I want to do it. Also as an exercise.

For 32 bit Ubuntu they have only one binary (sage-4.6.2-linux-32bit-ubuntu_10.04_lts-i686-Linux.tar.lzma).
I use Ubuntu 11.04. Don’t know whether it’s compatible.

ImportError: No module named crypt

Last part of terminal response (see above):

ImportError: No module named crypt
Error importing ipy_profile_sage - perhaps you should run %upgrade?
WARNING: Loading of ipy_profile_sage failed.

Does anyone know how to upgrade sage?
(Just entering %upgrade in the command line at the sage directory does not work.)
