Explain to me why the correct transformation into a cube does not occur with a cone?
If I change the cone to a ico sphere, everything works.
Icosphere and cube have portions above and below the z=0 place. The cone is just above z=0.
So, how do you think that would affect Sample Nearest Point?
The answer lies there.
(as a side exercise - explain why transforming the cone half-way down will still not work)

In this case, for point C, the nearest point will be selected randomly?
