I have a c4d file and to convert it I installed the trial version of Cinema4D, but apparently I’m missing a lot of plugins that to my understanding are not free. any Ideas?

well… depends on where you got that file from:
On some “3D object” platform there are converting option or the same file is uploaded mutliple times with slightly different detail (or not) and sometimes with different file formats.
There are also some online 3D object file converters… but they often tell nothing about plugins or even possible version.
And also if some user here does have this… it may be bit problematic to do this for you (and especially upload this here on the server) like for example copyright… ( 
) .
You may have to elaborate this to get a more suited answer.
The only Plugin you would need out of all those is CV-Artsmart to import Adobe Illustrator or PDF files ( which I assume is the file in question needs) the rest are just render plugins, The file should be free with an account on Maxon-Cineversity…HERE…
The rest is just exporting from Cinema to Blender and figuring out what to do in Blender.
