Converting subsurf model to a 'normal' mesh?

Is there a way I can convert a subsurf model into a ‘normal’ mesh.

The reason I’m asking is because I’m trying to export a model I made, using subsurfs, into another program by VRML.

But when I do this the model just comes out all squared, the squares are the ones that I used to model the subsurf thingie.

Anyone who doesn’t use subsurfs won’t have a clue what I was on about in that above bit. LOL

Thanks in advance fellow Blender heads!

Push ALTKEY+CKEY on the subsurfed mesh.

When I do that, with the subsurf selected, it just comes up with:

Convert to:
Mesh (Keep Original)

Which I proceed to comfirm, but then notihng appears to happen at all. It’s still a subsurf.

Sorry, you push “delete” to delete the subsurfed mesh. Now you have an un subsurfed mesh exactly like the subsurfed one!

well, not exactly

at the very least the vertex groups [used for armatures] are messed up in an interesting way

This means it will be converted to an ordinary mesh, and it will keep the origional subsurf instead of deleting it.

Simple, no?

Ah ha! Thanks so much guys, you are very kind people!
