Cooked rice (for sushi)

Hi everyone.
I work now on food scene and need to create some sushi.
But I cannot get good enought rice material. I know I had to play with SSS settings but… help needs!
Maybe its better to switch to other renderer (Cycles, Lux, Yafa)?

first of all why don’t you model a single rice object with proper shapes cause right now it’s too smooth and simple
it may give a better look with a more elaborate rice grain!

then you can play with different materials and texture with some SSS

see pic

ok this is more like brown rice but look at the shape more elongated
tips are smaller ect…
and some SSS which can be added !

I agree you should use a different rice shape. http://www.purcellmountainfarms.com/Sushi%20Rice.JPG

I am assuming you created the rice tower with a particle system. Maybe make a group of slightly different rice objects so there is a slight variation of the individual pieces?

another trick here would be to use game engine to add a lot of grains in a certain shape!

set in blender game at top and in render panel click on start
but here i did not set a empty cube but it can be done!
and the cube would fill up with the objects
