Copy UV map not working

I wanted to create symmetric UV maps (created a mirrored duplication of my model and applied modifier)
And now I’m trying to copy mirrored UV map to “new” model, but it wont work
How can I fix it?

And you do know that the mirror modifier can mirror the UVs??

I have my rirrored UVs here

And I want it to be also here

This is the same models, but one is with mirror modifier + multiresolution and it behave srtrange, so just want to transfer mirrored UVs to “new” model which is the same (with multiresolution), but it was not mirrored.

Ahhh, maybe this has something do to with the position of the UVs:

I think I explained bad… (sorry, I dont know english well)

I have a model with multires

This model is symmetric, so I wanted mirrored UVs to lay on top of each other, so it will be easy to draw textures, because the left and the right parts will have same texrure position (on top of each other). So I duplicated my model, deleted half and added a mirror modifier. And applied modifier( You can see that now I have half’s on top of each other)

But then I turn on multires and it looks like that (greeen was mirrored and blue is basic model)

So I decided to transfer UVs from green to blue, but this window popup

So the models are the same, I don`t know why copy UV map not work.

I can rotate and snap UVs by hand, but I don`t understand why “copy UVs” method not working

You can try using Data Transfer Modifier:

  • turn off Multires so it won’t get in the way;
  • add Data Transfer to blue (?) mesh;
  • set Source to green mesh;
  • check Face Corner Data > UVs;
  • if meshes are indeed identical set Mapping to Topology. If not you can try other options;
  • hit Apply to see results (I don’t think it’s possible to preview them)

Its partly working with other options(with topology - not) , but maybe you know what other options to set to get better result, because I tried some with no result. Thanks

Placed both meshes at origin and used “Nearest Face and Best Matching Normal” in your file. Seem to have worked.

Btw, the meshes are not identical - check vertex count.

@Valerie: Just a note, many of the proposals here seem to fail because your meshes are somehow no longer identical. These loops here in your error message more or less directly relate to the facecount, and the message states they differ,maybe its caused by the center seam of the mirroring, so perhaps dont merge the halfs before transfer.

@Debuk @stray Ok, so I tried with this settings and without merging halfs, and it almost worked! Some fingers are in wrong place, but other worker well! Thanks a lot

Where can I find that “Transfer Mesh Data” dialouge shown on the screenshot? I don’t have that in blender at all. Object ‣ Link/Transfer Data just does not exsist in Object mode!!!

Normally its better to make a new topic to get some attention as this thread is already marked as solved.

Make sure you have mesh objects selected otherwise its grayed out. Its transferring from active to selected meshes.

If you have, then there is a “transfer mesh data” option in the location you mentioned. In the next popup choose uvs and then unfold the panel in the lower left corner of the 3dviewport.

https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/scene_layout/object/editing/link_transfer/transfer_mesh_data.html

No, there is nothing there. Not even the “Link” option. I have both selected. It doesn’t matter what I select there is nothing like that in my blender. I have a thread open, but the steps posted in there lead to the problem that all UVs get lost. Blender removes them when joining so I have this new problem on how to get them back :confused: It’s Daz based character with top notch UV. I can not do the UV all over again. Also I just want to fix a hand full of polygones. See here:

Whats your blender version? And can you post a screenshot with the menu unfolded and the outliner visible?

Since this thread is a year old, already solved, and a different problem, let’s please move this discussion back to your thread. Thanks!
