Copying weight paint from one object to another and mirror

Ok so I’m rigging my 3d model with multiple objects. ex: the bottom half of my characters body is 4 parts (including left and right). Here’s the problem: parenting the meshes with my armature with automatic causes one side to be alright, and the other one to be completely fucked up. I would like to manual draw the weight paint on but then I have another side of the model that I need to transfer the weight too. I’ve tried watching some tutorials on it but none are actually giving me an answer. I want to do one side of the model and copy it and bring it to my other object on the other side and mirror it.

Thanks.

It’s not very clear indeed.
you mean: i want to weight paint one object on the right side bones then mirroring it and changing the skining weight so that they are assigned to the left side bone?

are the the same objects?

in that case… for mirrored objects. Names are important… they must include .L .R or _L _R
to be recognized as mirrored bones.

If your object is a perfect mirror, use the mirror modifier (center defined by an empty at the center if the object origin is not at the center.)

you can also change your vertex weight groups name to “cheat” assign left from right.

Ok, thank you for your reply. This really helped. I took one side and mirrored it then applied it so it was one object. It still works just as intended, only problem now is the weight paint isn’t mirroring. Now that it is one object, shouldn’t mirror the weight paint as well. I’ve tried using the tools on the right side of the screen but neither option works. I’m trying to weight paint one side so the other mirrored side that I’ve applied will also be the exact same.

Thank you again for actually taking the time out of your day to help me. I really really appreciate it.

The image is one side of the model, the object of the arms are parented with automatic weights, and both sides are even, now I want to mirror the weight paint on one side.

Actually I got it! I needed to reset rotation and size. Works just as fine>
