Hey guys! Check this out…
Note! This will not have wrinkles, as it is supposed to be BRAND NEW…
It looks very cool. Only the upper part of the armrest looks a bit strange…like Paper were wrapped around it. And scale the of the texture is too high: Scale it down so the couch will look more “fabric”. Otherwise I really love the design and the choice of colours.
The things I see: there are several spots on the armrest that seem weird as mentioned, and the legs look a bit low-poly. Maybe give them some bevel?
This one doesn’t matter so much, but when I first saw the model, I thought it was an ao render, but that was probably because of the plain background. I’d change that once you are finished to show off the couch material. (and look nicer.)
Great job on the modeling.
Lighting/textures need some work though…
First of all, those legs are… smooth-shaded rectangles? Either subdivide the bottom, or make them flat shaded, and decrease the reflectivity.
Second of all, the overall tones are somewhat boring. That can easily be fixed by adding some more detail to the background, and playing around with the lights (perhaps make them brighter).
Third of all, it’s no good when your background colors match the main object’s colors. In this particular case, where you have a plain background and a model that stands out, you don’t necessarily have to highlight it, but it certainly would look nicer and more to-the-point if you did.
And I agree with sandboxer - your texture does look a bit wrong. I’m not sure whether the scale is wrong, per se, but you certainly should increase the bumpmap height on that, as it looks too… plain, and cloth-like, rather than fabricky as a couch would, and is a bit too reflective (or has too much light on it). Do try to decrease the number of lamps around it and see what that does…
Um, that’s a piece of fabric… And the texture is small, on purpose, but I will scale it up if it pleases the public
What Should the background be ctdabomb?
An hdr from Andrew Price was used for the lighting… Um, the feet of the couch were wrong, as I accidentally made them smooth shading, since I was using the pie menu addon…
Um, I’ll scale up the texture, and add a bump map (I COMPLETELY FORGOT IT!!!)
And , what should the background be?? Thank for your time, and interest!
You don’t have to completely change it. Just experiment with the colors a bit… they just need to make the couch stand out and make the viewer stop for a moment, and examine the couch. I’d also raise the camera slightly, just to be able to see the seating part more clearly, but that’s just an opinion. It all depends on how you see the final result, and the kind of effect you’re trying to achieve. The effect is right only when you feel like it’s right
Better! See my notes on the image:
As for the background, go for something you like, which compliments the couch and makes it stand out. (real exact and descriptive aren’t I

Actually, as the artist, it’s all about how everyone else perceives it… Um, here’s the update…
I set the bump too high though… I’ll re-render tonight, with a much lower bump… Anything else wrong with it? ALSO, I’ll play with the camera a little… Try to bring it up… I watched a camera tutorial, on how to position a camera in an animation, and the concepts… However, this is not a character, or animation… So, the theory may not apply.
The theory was, that if the camera is up high, then the character seems unimportant, however if the camera is down low, the character seems much more important…

How about if I completely remove the covers on arms? Would it then look better?
Alright, here’s a couch i got off google that shares similar features with yours.
First off, note the way the camera is situated - it provides an overview of the couch.
And here’s another couch. It is also kind of similar to yours (to the non-bumpmapped version).
Note that it’s also brand new, but the little tiny wrinkles and uneven surface give it a significantly more realistic look. There simply cannot be a couch (albeit, brand new) whose fabric has been evenly touched (or is untouched) by the workers who made it. It also seems unlikely to me that it could be stuffed perfectly and evenly, without making at least some small imperfections.
So do look into a different camera angle (and you’re right - that tutorial is not exactly applicable here. A low positioned camera does make an object look grand and awesome, but what you have here is a couch you want to display it in detail, rather than make us think it’s made for a giant)
And I think you should definitely add some imperfections to the surface via sculpt mode.
Okay, will do
Okay, done… Now to render overnight XD
Out of passing curiosity, why have you put two marks in your own poll?
i think the arm’rest things on the sides are too tall compared to the back. it looks like you either have to have your arm waay up, or have nothing to lean back on.
Cause… I love to vote XD
Okay, okay… I can see that… I’ll see what I can do
