Create high poly mesh from low poly and normal map?

Bit of a weird question, had a quick search but it seems nobody has tried this (or it’s not possible/doesn’t yield good results…)

But basically, given a low poly mesh, can you multires and then use the normal map to recreate the hi res version?

I guess converting the normal map into a bump map and feeding it into the displacement modifier should do what I’m thinking…

I’m going to have a tinker…:eyebrowlift2:

Seems like you can - I converted the normal map to a height map in awesome bump, and tried what I proposed above, and ended up getting somewhere close to the original sculpt (I imagine, I don’t have the original sculpt, which is partially the reason I decided to attempt this).

perhaps this?:

Can you make a little guide how to make that?

Well, pretty much as I said - I put the normal map into awesomebump to convert to a bump map, and then used that as the texture for a displacement map on a mesh with a few levels of subdivision
