create new map

Hi there,

probably im writing the wrong words in the search bar - please help!

Ive created a building in Blender, and UV-unwrapped several parts of the Wall so i can use the same image for texturing in Cycles. Everything looks just fine.

Now ive been told, that the building is needed in Cinema 4d :frowning: - how can i create a new Picture (just like an unwrapped face-mask), that i am able to unwrap on my cinema-mesh?

so long story short:
how do i get a Picture like this:
http://www.unearthedart.com/images/external/LDG_01_unwrap.jpg
for my building?

You can export the building to OBJ (which can export also the model UVs) and then import it from C4D, so you wouldn’t need to unwrap it again.

But to answer your last question, you can always export the uv layout:

Image editor -> UV -> Export UV layout

And then you can open the uv layout in GIMP or PS and put it on a layer above the texture, with multiply or screen blending.

Maybe there is a quicker way to do it right inside Blender, but I don’t have any idea how.

so youre saying, that i have to overpaint the UV-layout in Photoshop or so? - hmm - i hoped to avoid this efford…

I’m afraid so, you could probably do it right inside Blender, with nodes, but it would take more time.

Anyway, as I already told you, if you need to have the same unwrapped model in Cinema4D, you can export it from Blender to .OBJ, .FBX or .DAE and import the building with its UVs intact in Cinema4D. That would be a smaller effort, right?

hmm…maybe im stupid, but if i do import an obj, fbx or dae i have materials, but without any images (just default grey) - just materials with the right name…
the web tells me, that i have to use the also exported mtl - but how do i do that right?

Hi Xenon_jp,

You can either paint the model in Blender using the texture paint mode or you can export the UV map by enabling the the “UV Layout” addon
(go to User Preferences > Addons and search for “UV Layout” and enable it).
Next tab into edit mode in the 3d view, go to the UV/Image editor with your UV map, open in it, select UV > Export UV Layout, save it somewhere.
Now you can edit it with your chosen image editing software.

I would recommend editing the UV externally if it’s a building.

I have no idea how C4D deals with imported materials :frowning: , you should ask in a C4D forum.
