Creating Heightmaps in Blender 2.8

How do you create a heightmap in blender and export it correctly? I have created the landscape, put the camera in position to fully cover it, and linked the composite and render layers node with a normalize node. That is where I am stuck. I am not sure what to do from there. I would greatly appreciate any help!

UV unwrap it.

create a material like this

you might need to adjust the Z value with some “Math” nodes or “color ramp” so it covers everything in the range between the 0 and 1.

You need to select the newly created image texture and then you bake it.
You need to be in the cycles render engine for that.
