Curve Tilt changes along a spiral curve...but doesn't!

Hello, all. I did an extensive search before posting this question but nothing that satisfies came up, so…

I’ve created a curve segment as illustrated in the following screenshot…

…to duplicate and connect the open points (F), the end result being a long spiral to which a bevel object will be attached. As you can see the tilt is 0°. But when I do duplicate and connect the points, I get this…

…the normals twist. Yet, strangely enough, the Tilt is still 0°! :open_mouth::thinking:

Now I really don’t want to go in and set each point’s tilt by hand as there’ll be more than 100 points, and even with hiding points it’s tough seeing what I’m doing. I’ve also tried this using a single vertex and a Spin modifier applied and then converted to a Curve, but in the end I have the same problem. What am I missing here? Am I going about this wrong? Any suggestions?

Hi @gtomorrow,

try changing the twist method to Z-Up . . .

Cheers,
Dj.

@DamianJ, thanks for the suggestion. It does appear to ameliorate the problem but does not resolve completely. I also tried the Tangent option and it appears to do about the same.

If anyone is interested I’ll upload a .blend file tomorrow. I know I must have done this a thousand times over the years, modelling ribbons and tracks and belts, etc. etc., but for some reason this time it’s just not happening for me.

STAY TUNED! :v::love_you_gesture:

As threatened yesterday :laughing: here is the .blend file…
curve_test.zip (108.9 KB)

Can anyone tell me what’s the problem…or more importantly, how to resolve? Thanks.

BUMP! Anybody…anybody…?
