This alternate of the previous two office towers Blender study consist of two identical mirrored versions. As previously noted the exterior skin of both towers is 98% multi-component tessellated, which made revising the exterior skin for this alternate extremely easy with only five different tissue panel types revised and/or replaced (here in a different pattern). As before the wavy portions of the skin were created with a non-destructible “Curve Modifier”.
In this study the “Lattice Modifier” was used to give the whole tower a simple curve as shown. Once again this was done non-destructively; that is that I replaced the previous “twist” into a simple curve. The more reflective glazing used in this alternate shows off how you can add building reflections by using a cityscape HDRI, with a second HDRI used for the background sky. (I do wish I could find more HDRI’s in which city buildings are shown at a distance…).
The right side mirrored copy of the original left tower is now an “instanced copy”. Please note I included the lattice as part of the instanced copy though I am not sure that was necessary. If I had always planned to mirror both buildings I assume I could have applied both lattice and mirror modifiers to every (many) elements in the base tower model; after the fact going the instance route in order to mirror the already curved group was much easier. As you know there is no way to mirror a group or collection. Nonetheless Blender does allow you to mirror an instanced copy by scaling it to -1. (Please note the attached screencopy was taken mid process; since in the original model the right side Alt-copy group did not automatically reflect the lattice modifier I removed and replaced it with an instanced / mirrored copy.)
