cut / copy / paste / please help!

Hello,

I’m relatively new to Blender, and I’m having a hard time grasping the concept of cutting, copying, and pasting in objects!

What I’d like to be able to do is copy and object from one layer to another while preserving the ability to edit the two independently. I know how to move an object into both layers (m key and shift+LMB the layers), but the two objects remain linked. If i edit one, the other one is changed in the same fashion.

Any help would be truly appreciated. Thanks, and I’m glad to be a part of the forum.

Use Shift-D to copy the object and then move the copy to whatever layer you want.

Also, Blender has a proprietary clipboard when it comes to text. So you can not just copy code from the forum and paste into blender text window. You have to use the SHIFT Key to extend the paste from the windows clipboard into Blender space.

Select text in this browser window and press CTRL-C to copy it to the Windows clipboard.
Open up a text window in Blender and create a new document.
Press SHIFT-CTRL-V to paste the standard clipboard text into Blender. NOTE: Your mouse must be over the text window before your paste into Bender or it will not work.

You can also do the reverse.
Select text in Blender and press SHIFT-CTRL-C to copy the text to the Windows clipboard. Then use CTRL-V to paste the text into notepad or whatever…

if you want copy and paste between blender and other window app,try this.

If you put an object in two layers, it is still only one object.

Shift-D duplicates the object with it’s own data.

Alt - D duplicates it using the same data block, so if you edit that object, the other will change as well.
