Certainly a fine set of detailed technical illustrations. Very well done. “Exceptional!”

nice work indeed

how many verts up to now ?

is it only in one file or using group instancing?

happy cl

That’s beautiful work, nicely done.

The stern compartment is about 1 million verts. It’s all one file, but I’m using as many group instances as I can to help keep the numbers down.

why the fish ?

it looks to me that there is a generator and motor together!

happy bl

The fish is just an Easter Egg. You’re the first to notice/comment. (It’s Klaus from the TV show Family Guy)

fish - like a personnel touch LOL

if you find more info on the elec motor and generator
I would definitively like to know more

there is also the hull !
was it made of titanium and what thickness if not still a WWII secret
for strength at great depth ?

thanks
happy bl

I do not know what the hull was made out of. I do know the German subs could dive deeper than most other submarines of the time. Sadly, I have no additional information about the motors or generators. Sorry.

Some updates for the engine room… The engine is mostly roughed out at this point.

(I’ve tried a different method of attaching my images to this post. Would somebody tell me if you cannot see the 4 images below? Thanks)

duuuude!!! hats off!!

if you go pay a visit again to the site for that sub
may be people there can get more data or info on the
diesel motor and the Generators and motors

it would complement well the model for data
and thanks for the feedback
it is looking nice indeed

are you going to do other models like that ?

happy bl

I have done some other cutaways…

Not adding much to the discussion I suppose…but…wow!

any idea where the bathrooms / showers were located ?

thanks
happy cl

Damn! So much details. Incredible work so far.

smadoc & ahuri - I appreciate the comments. It helps motivate me to know people are looking at the work as it moves along.

RickyBlender - There were two toilets. One next to the galley (just in front of the engine room) on the starboard side. The other one was closer to the forward torpedo room on the port side. The aft-bathroom served as a food locker for the first part of every voyage and could not be used until the food inside it had been consumed. Showers were sometimes rigged on the deck or crew members could occasionally go swimming, but usually the men did without any kind of bathing.

I will be posting images of the galley and warrant officer sections soon.

did you do a high res of the torpedoes ?

These were not really met for high see like North Atlantic in winter
also they were a bit limited in range distance

Life was very difficult in these U-Boat

thanks
happy bl

Ricky, Torpedoes will be done when I get to the forward torpedo room.

Galley is pretty much done:

And the aft officers quarters has been started…

what are the boxes under the galley
are these batteries or drinkable waters?

did you show all the batteries ?

are you planning to do a high res for the periscope?

thanks
happy cl

The boxes are some of the batteries. There is another set of them under the forward officers’ quarters.

The control room has a periscopes and will be in the next compartment I do. I do not have any good reference material for the conning tower, so I will probably not add any details there (there’s a second periscope there.)
