Cutlery Setting

Hey guys, just got back into the blender world -

It seems people are getting into table tops now-a-days. Thought I’d try and model myself some objects that go on a table top!

Critique pleaseeee… i know its a bit grainy  - Technically this pointless scene is finished (might put it into a bigger theme keep it as stock) how can I improve them or what should I add?

I like the materials, and the teapot is quite nice. The bowl is too thin, it looks like it would shatter. And the cutlery is too small relative to the other objects. That’s about a 4 inch fork. The tines on the fork are too short relative to the rest of the fork. The knife has an odd crease in it.

Hey blenderallday,

Thanks for the feedback  It helped!

I did decide to increase the bowls depth a bit to make it look more thick, and scaled the knife up a bit and also got rid of the crease in the knife slightly, but not all the way :stuck_out_tongue: Ive noticed that the butter knives (table knife) i have here at home have the crease too. That is why i did it

like this example:

But yeah - it was a bit more than it should have been, hey.

Here is the new version:

I still want to remove more noise in the render, what other aspects do you guys think I should achieve to have a nicer render?

Maybe lighten up the shadows of the china a bit (towars some whiteish colour) with an is shadow ray mix node. Other than that I’d say that you could use another environment texture as this one has a lot of harsh edges (could also be lightened by plane lamps, can’t tell from the render), but thats a matter of composition I guess.

Much better. The fork should still be scaled up some. I guess it depends what your goal is for this: if these are just part of an object library then it doesn’t really matter, but if you’re making a scene you need some more, well, scenery. This feels like it wants a napkin, a place mat, maybe something for the teapot to sit on. The bowl needs some food, a table, who knows. The objects now are essentially grayscale and symmetrical. Throw in some colors and asymmetry.
