Cycles: More shadows/shaders

I’ve been doing some Minecraft renders for fun, and the main criticism I receive is that it looks too much like the game, because there’s barely any shadows.

Help?

Well, it depends on your lighting. You don’t have to do anything “special” for shadows in Cycles, they are simply a byproduct of your light placement. If you want different shadows, change your lighting. The shadows you’re getting right now are exactly the shadows you’d get if you had true lighting like that in your scene.

So for example, If I put a light above, say, the notice board, it would cast a stronger shadow?

Yes. Adding a sun lamp and giving it a steep angle will get you long, dramatic shadows. Lowering the size parameter of the light will give you sharper edges on your shadows. Adding and removing a world background color will either blow out shadows or make them more defined. It’s all about the look you’re going for.

I think it’s my size that’s causing the problem here. What’s a good size to use?

Got it nice looking, what do you think?
