The one using volumetric absorption would probably become the more realistic one if you also looked to mix in some volumetric scattering as well (since juice would do more to light than simply change the color or energy).
Also, the new volumetric implementation is also the only way to get the effect where the first millimeter or so is clear, but quickly gets murky. SSS in a nutshell is mainly a cheat to give the impression of scattering, great for creatures, not as much for fluids.
