Do particle billboards work in Cycles now? I made a plane of my particle that renders perfectly in Cycles. However, I can’t seem to get billboards in a particle system to render.
The particles will render if I set my particle plane object as an object (not billboard) in the particle system. But I would like these particles to always face the camera. Any ideas?
I am using 2.67 RC and it seems like Billboards do not work. You can put the particle system in Object mode and choose a plane, however. Essentially the same thing without all those querky tile splitting work flow from the 2.4 series.
Note sure if I should continue this post or start fresh. But is there a way to get the plane objects to always face perpendicular to the camera like the billboards used to?
Here is an example file that shows how you can kind of restore tracking on Group or Object based particles with a plane source particle. The source particle plane needs to reside in the same location as the center of the emitter. You can add a Track To constraint to the particle source object and all particles deployed by the particle system will inherit the orientation of the source. This occurs only when the Rotation check box is activated.
Here you can see that all the generated particles have the same orientation but they more or less face the camera.
