Cycles Strand rendering (Grass)

Hi,
So I am making some grass in my scene and wanting to get the ‘Mowed’ grass look with the alternating coloured lines. I was just wondering with regards to mapping etc how I would go about achieving this look?

If this is a hair particle system you can apply an alternating colored texture to the uv unwrapped emitting mesh. The strands will then have this color(s).
