Cycles:"Strand Rendering"

Greetings Everyone!
The first Cycles Hair test i did for now is done in form of Grass, the mode used was Smooth Curves and Rendered with Blender 2.66 testbuild1.
Hope you like it!

.Rendered in 1920x1080 & 500 samples.

what does it look like with fast planes. grass is not completely round of course. Just curious.

This definitely looks good for everything except close ups. I would hate to see the render times with it scaled to a field size

Yeobe1:I know that, but if i want to make a grass field i would ofcourse make its quality as low as i can…So i will not put Smooth Curve mode to a field of grass^,^.And here in this render you see,i increased the grass numbers and children alot to get better looking grass.

i really like this! i am currently trying to make grass in cycles look as good as it did beofre i started cycles just need to learn the main nodes for it… mayne post nodes for this?

There’s a link to download the scene in his first post. The node setup and all is there for you if you need it.

LightTop:Dude, don’t complicate it on yourself…the Grass you see here in the post is much simple then you imagine,my point is that rendering Hair or Grass in Cycles is 100% easier then rendering in BI, here in Cycles you don’t need alpha, complicated materials and other stuff…You just pick up any grass texture you want and add it to your grass material and then tweak some settings in the particle system in order to look random…And that’s it! No need for any nodes since Cycles realistic lighting will do the job

Added Sample 2 of the grass.
