Daenerys Targaryen

Hi all,

A little nervous to share this one with you all. I’ve spent a lot of time staring at it over the past couple of weeks, trying to nail it. I’m not quite sure I got there, but it’s at a point where I can look at it now, and be happy enough to share. Even up to yesterday when I was doing test renders all day, I was spotting little tweaks that needed to be made - I had to stop, it was driving me mad a little.

But anyway…

All Sculpting, modelling etc…done in Blender.

Skin was cleaned up in Substance as usual, using textures from XYZ.

I hope you like her.

Thanks!!

And as you asked so nicely on Artstation to look at my skin shader - here it is:

Skin shader itself is really nothing special. Just a Principled BSDF with the relevant maps plugged in.

We also have a micro displacement, which was a little nugget I picked up from Kent Trammell’s excellent Human Course.

Then we just have the Diff, Roughness, SSS Color, and Displacement maps.

You’re on the #featured row! :+1:

Thanks!! Genuinely wasn’t expecting that when I posted.

Interesting way to make a uv map of a face. Have not seen it like that.

I compared it for some time with an image from the show and i think a subtle dark shadow around the eyes would help. The hair turned out splendid, really like the side view image.

Great work!

Pretty awesome to see
You did a great job with the hair though!
Keep up~

I was watching Kent Trammells HUMAN course, and saw it was how he unwrapped it. Tried it, and got really good texel density and almost zero stretching. Genius, really.

Thanks so much! Yes, I was super happy with the hair.

! well deserved! … do u have the issues with the subsurface , that u can see lines from the mesh almost highlighted in red where the subsurface go throw ? they seem to almost be gone if I up the subdivision, but then usally the model gets pretty heavy.

No, can’t say I’ve ever had that issue. Not a normal, or smooth shading issue? Might be worth a support post if it keeps happening.

Thinking about it, if you’re using a displacement map, it might be that you don’t have displacement and bump turned on in the material settings.
