Dalek

I started to model a Dalek today, it’s far from completion but I kinda lost my way with it a bit. Any suggestions? I’ll lose that texture on the upper part, he looks armor plated which is a bit unnecessary as we all know that a well placed staircase is enough to defeat one

i think it could be a little shorter, from wot iv seen of them they are shorter than yours.

see?

sorry if you already have good references

well modeled, just the textures need tweaking.

Terrific. I think there’s not enough Daleks around the CGi world.

It does look a tad tall though, and should be shorter. I did one about a year ago for a Vehicle unit on a course. (Worked too since what we call a Dalek is actually just a vehicle to house the REAL Dalek alien.)

If I find time I’ll post an image for comparison

ps. Oh, and stairs won’t stop a Dalek. Those machines can hover, as demonstrated in an old episode and one of the newer series. Just thought I’d let you know in case you’re chased by one and decide to run upstairs to hide under ya bed

Thanks for the extra reference image midgetmike, I guess he is a bit tall. I hadn’t noticed that, I’ll try and fix it before the weekend.

Darleks can hover PolygoneUK? :o I must of missed that episode, guess I’ll have to rub on extra Darlek Repellent tonight. And do please post a pic if you have time.

Appreciate the comments.

thought id prove to you that stairs cant stop a dalek!

Here ya go toaster. Had to dig it out the old backup archives. Here’s a small image of my Dalek machine, and also a link to a 360-degree lookaround of it.

At the time it was modelled entirely with Wings3D, and then imported into MAX 7 as that was what we used back then. Didn’t even know about Blender at that point %|

The green thing on it is merely a mock decal for a ficticious company some college buds and I used for the year hehe…

I shall post no more images so that I don’t look like trying to sideswipe your thread. Post more updates as you go along. How about a wireframe? Any details on whether your mesh is low-poly or high poly? Did you use SubD at all?

PS. Oh my oh my. HOW freaky is that. The image posted by midgetmike features a CREAM-COLOURED Dalek. :o Mine was done almost a year ago. What a freaky thing.

Oh! Love the 360 view there, hope mine can can get close to that. And you can never have too many Darleks in one thread

I’ll try and get some more done on this before the weekend and post the .blend and stuff. Here’s hoping.

PolygoneUK my image is from the episode “Remembrance of the Daleks” with the seventh doctor Sylvester McCoy.

I love Doctor Who ,always have and always will, im watching this closly, keep it up.

Midgetmike, of course, now I remember… that’s where the image is from. It’s been SO long since I saw any old-school Dr. Who, what with last year’s re-vamped and updated series on the BBC.

Speaking of which, there’s a new series coming this April or something. Can’t wait, we’ll finally get Cybermen, new millenium style. :o

wont it be really awesome!! did you see the xmas special? it will be great for all the people who only discovered the wonders of the doctor last year to have the same experiences as the older ones who have seen all the others. (did that sentence even make sense? )

im only 15 but have seen most of the older episodes.

anyway this is getting a little off topic. cant wait to see any updates.

Not bad, but not good. If you join Project Dalek, you can get some accurate schematics.

For one thing, there are 11 sides on the skirt section, the back side and the two outer-most sides also have two rows of hemispheres.

There are 13 long slats, 4 short slats, and one front slat (which you have).
