daniel in the park

Very nice job! It is quite impressive, that you only sculpted the character.
Keep it up!

This is concrete proof that I’m more likely to run out of talent before I ever hit the limits of blender as a program. Fantastic composition. absolutely love it.

wow, first let me thank you for voting me top row again! my little boys do please  i am very flattered and happy  and feel a little, hmmm, as i know daniel has some not so well done issues…but, really heartfeeled thank you!

paolo, thank you again.
alin, thank you. yes, i enjoy being in sculptcookie team.
cctrevis thank you. i do create lots of tutorials, but i do not know when the site will really launch. i guess there is a lot to do to get a great start…and, i myself have not all tutorials finished i was asked for…
tungee, thanks, freut mich sehr.
quantum anomaly, yes i see your point, bad mix from my side. i had done so before, and always liked it, and it was same when i tried here on this piece. but, yes, not good style, i agree.bthank you.
sundialsvc4, yes you are right, i mix two things that belong separated. could have easily sculpted the hair as well. somehow i liked this approach however when i first tried it. but, yes it is a stylistic break… yes, your idea putting something real onto a sculpture, is done in woodcarving frequently, for example, carve a portrait from a block of wood, and put a real necklace around the neck,…ian norbury dies such wonderfully. i will keep in mind for next pieces. thank you.
uniquecorn, thank you. … and the treetrunks are sculpted as well, this is not just a cylinder with a displacement map, but hand sculpted bark.
j_ abellana thank you… i agree, blender offers so much great tools, we still can find and use, i know that i know only part of blender how to use them…lol… talent, huh, i think, it is more dedication, just never give up, always push to your limits, and you will see amazing development of your skills, most important is that you feel joy all the time

A bit late to the party lol, but awesome work, doris. There’s some room for improvement, nothing that hasn’t been mentioned previously, really. Keep it up.

oh god, superb . awesome work .

Wow! Thanks, Doris! Now I’ve got to think of a way to do the same back!

Thanks! I’m honored!

Dan

So many good portraits recently!
I like it though the eyes are a little eery.
i think you nearly made it out of my uncanny valley.

The kid looks really lively with that expression on his face, really nice work !

Ha, I knew it must be you as soon as I saw it. I must be getting used to your style. Nice work.

spits9. yes room for improvement, i take as motivation to do better in next piece…thank you.
andri v, thank you.
dan, lol, you are too kind
norrolith, nearly out of your uncanny valley is good, and motivation to try harder. thank you
thank you sanctuary, yes the expression was very important for me, glad you think it is succeed.
marc, great, i did not notice myself i had already a style, but it must be, when my work you can recognize just from a thumbnail  thank you

Still, it looks like a spaceship.

It is not, a very well modeled plant but I liked the spaceship.
The expression on his face. He still looks on a spaceship.

Hair vs the sculpting material… it looks weird.
Plants may need translucent material, maybe some sss.

Hand looks a bit small.

The shirt is sculpted a little randomly. There isn’t an obvious geometry on it.

Well,
I like it a lot.
A very convincing scene.

Such questionable scenes, reminded me the first time I saw Edward Hopper’s works.
You are a brave artist Doris.
A spontaneous artist.

The most important.
What goes right on scene, not what goes wrong.
Else, we’re far away from what art means.

but, yes, michalis, that was why i choose a bird of paradise plant, since it ressembles (in a boys eye) a spaceship… he pretends this flower is a spaceship, thats why is his expression… brave, i don’t know, but i like to try things others said do not work, lol… thanks michalis…

Looks great, congrats. I think there is a bit of an issue with the inner and outer helix of the ear, it seems a little off but I am being pedantic. I can understand doing it as an exercise but I wouldn’t rule out textures for the sake of it. A normal map on some of the surfaces, especially the tree trunks and jacket/body warmer would raise the level even higher. I love the expression on his face and the hand is great. First class work.

thank you seanser, yes you are right, i should be not so restrictive with my tool set.

Wow this is amazing. What occurs to me most is the amazing amount of depth and form you gave everything without relying on a trick like blurring the background. Its like reaching in and around everything. I don’t understand the criticism or the textures and some of the drawing elements? Does everything have to look like a certain style or technique or ultra realism? NO. You gave this a unusual sort of another planet look to me. Would they also tell VanGogh exactly how to paint like Jean Claude Gerome or him like Ingres. Yes I guess so… lol. May I ask what system you work on to create something so complex. And how you haven’t pulled all your hair out trying to do this… bravo.

wow, shaylass, thank you so much for your kind words. they are very supportive for my exlopring way  … oh, i am a very patient person, and as long as the project moves on with every thing i do, i am fine and can wait until it is finished … my system is an 27’’ imac with intel core i7 processors, a nvidia graphics card with 2gig ram, and 32gig system ram. yes, it is a comfortable machine for such projects, i love it

Thanks so much for your answer. I am stunned that you don’t rely on some sort of super computer. I don’t mean to kill you with flattery, I sincerely mean it. You are very good at accepting the criticisms also as a positive thing. Criticism can be both positive and negative and you accept it as positive. I have had the same criticism of my paintings. I like to distort somethings ie: Thomas Hart Benton just so people know that I do draw them and not blow them up on a wall from a slide as some artists I know do. And someone will tell me an arm is too long etc… ha, ha. Keep up the great work and attitude and thanks for sharing.

i love this looks dramatic,it scares me a bit.

a 10 sec animation (or little movement) with texures would be killa.

shaylass, oh to me the imac is a super computer , since before that i rendered on a small airbook, with only 2gig system ram and a single lame processor… hehe, yes i understand that joy of distort something…
love3d, thank you… oh, i can imagine it might be fun to see as animation, but i never did such, and i guess it is not wise to start to learn with such a huge project. but i appreciate the suggestion, keep it in mind for later. thank you.

good work i really like it but some making of with photo if you can
