DARF – Distributed Render Farm Prototype Using Recycled Androids

Hey everyone,

I’m sharing an early-stage prototype of DARF — the Distributed Asset Render Farm project, now live on GitHub:

DARF is an experimental system for building a DIY render pipeline using recycled Android phones. The idea is to offload Blender rendering tasks to a lightweight, decentralized farm built from surplus hardware—quick to set up, minimal fuss, and scalable depending on what’s lying around.

It’s still very much in early development, but the bones are there:

  • Python-powered orchestration
  • Ad-hoc device coordination
  • Designed with Blender automation and asset prep workflows in mind

Would love feedback from anyone interested in render distribution, unconventional pipelines, or just pushing Blender outside its comfort zone. If you’ve dabbled in scripting render queues or DIY farms, I’d especially love your take.

Thanks for checking it out!
