well, you take your average size plane and circle and start extruding like hell, i uesd alot of the mirror modifier, subsurf came handy too.
lighting is done with 2 lamps near the camera and one big spotlight coming out of the well/hole in the ground thing
and a little compositor stuff(still learning)
