Data design interactive, making money by making quick games that are almost the same

Like Rock&Roll Adventures

Ninjabread man (same game with different graphics)

Anubis 2 (same game as the above two with different graphics)

Trixie in Toyland (same game as the above three with different graphics)

Rocket Broomstick racing (generic racing game of some sort)

Action girlz racing (boring for everyone except tots)

Rig Racer 2 (not a sequal)

They’re some of more than 20 games Data Design interactive have managed to shovel out to unsuspecting casual Wii owners. And shows the secret to why they have money and are still in business, just give a generic game several new coats of paint and sell them all as something new, don’t forget the nice box art.

To give you an idea of how bad a developer they are in the eyes of gamers here’s this petition to ban them from making games for the Wii
http://www.petitiononline.com/mm33mn3/petition.html

If the games are all crappy clones of each other, then people just won’t buy them. Why not let the free market decide the company’s fate instead of trying to have Nintendo kill them off?

Just to note it’s not my petition, and the problem is casual gamers see a few screenshots and the box and they buy it, they don’t look at reviews or so I heard, they may just see a certain buzz phrase like ‘interact with your mii’ and see shots that look fun and they buy it. I remember being at a Sam’s club store and found a copy of Big Rigs Over the Road Racing, someone came by and picked up the box, because the box art, definition on the back, and the screens don’t give much to the truth about that game, and so a copy was sold.

Same interface, same style, like different levels of the same game. The only thing that changes is some models, textures, and the hud.

Every game company is doing this these days, just with much shinier coats of paint.

Keep in mind that most of us here are not the target audience for these games. The people who are interested in actually buying games like this might see the situation very differently.

Im sure that no body here has ever had to explain to their mother why this new game where you run around shooting people is worth spending 60$ on when you already have a perfectly good “run around shooting people” game? Imagine that situation in reverse and you may have something close to what we are seeing here.
