David Blaine-underwater for 9 min

I just realized that tonight David Blaine will try to hold his breath for 9 min. underwater. Should be intersting, I think it will be quite amusing to watch.

I think he’s an idiot. I wouldn’t mind if he just did it in his own home, but when he sticks himself in the middle of a crowded place to do it, he’s just an irritating little attention seeker. I hate how he says “I just want to push myself to the limit and prove to myself I can do anything”. Fine, that’s great, but don’t subject us to it.

It was quite funny when he stayed in the box over the mersey though. Not one single person in england actually cared; they all just thought “he’s a c**t” (in those words exactly).

Maybe his next trick could be to get out of the public eye for the rest of his life

/rant over.

isnt it supposed to be “living under water for a week”

There’s people can hold their breath way longer than 9mins.

I am just going by what abc said.

This is from the BBC article

After seven days he will attempt to break the world record for holding breath under water, which currently stands at eight minutes, 58 seconds.

If someone has already held their breath for 9 min it sure will be funny when David Blaine finds out.

I think he’s doing both. He’s currently doing the living one, and after that I think he’s holding his breath. Meh.

I heard on tv somewhere that his world record won’t count because he’s been breathing pure oxygen in his “bubble”. To go for the “normal” world record, he would have to breathe normal air for at least two hours before attempting it for it to count. I believe “whatever-I-was-watching” also said the record for holding breath after breathing pure oxygen for a while is 15 minutes, so 9 minutes is no big deal.

He’s an entertainer he does this for a living just like any other entertainer, there are people out there who enjoy watching this sort of thing not my personal taste but I also can’t stand most stuff on tv. He’s probably getting very good money out of it from sponsors and whatever ABC is paying him. If putting himself in extreme situations for other people’s entertainment is what he’s good at then why shouldn’t he do that? I don’t see it as any different than being a magician or musician or actor it’s all showmanship.

Considering his success in every one of his other stunts he should be able to wow the public with his finale. I for one will be anxious to see it.

meh, i dont see what is so ‘WOW’ about it. you know there are going to be like 5 comercial breaks and they are going to over-dramatize the whole event for an hour or so.

but what is so special about being able to hold your breath for 9 minutes anyways, i have seen better spectacles than that.

7 minutes 8 seconds…

Did you see the woman hold him down during the last few seconds? he was fighting to get out.

I guess I assumed his success…hahaha…I can’t recall the name, but there’s a condition in humans that gives us pleasure from others misfortune…
oh, a fleetful feeling… Goodbye feeling!

I watched the whole show from start to finish, he didn’t make the record but he…

1). spent more time underwater continuisly then any other person
2). he didn’t drown himself in the process

At the end during the credits they showed his hands and the fronts were completely white and wrinkled and the chains could peel his skin (hence the gloves)

Spin I bet you shot off to the forum the moment he stopped holding his breath:rolleyes:

HA! I have a TV-Capture card. Watch TV and surf at the same time.

It was quite funny when he stayed in the box over the mersey though. Not one single person in england actually cared; they all just thought “he’s a c**t” (in those words exactly).

The Thames, the Mersey is by Liverpool (think the Beatles). People over here shone laser pointers at him, shot paintballs and jeered him. We aren’t that easliy impressed.

Here in the USA we are just bored, with 200 Tv channels to choose from, and a 100 Pay-Per-View channels to select from.

Paintballs? laser pointers? Gosh you guys have fun…I’d prbly get arrested if I tryed that! lol

Well, he didnt break the record but it was a good try.

So do people in the UK but we have a lower tolerance towards stupidity. I believe at a press conference, he simulated cutting his ear off and the press just shouted to him to cut off the other one.

Why didn’t someone get a ladder and pee in his air hose? I also wonder how he does the toilet in a glass tank. OK suspended in a glass box he goes under covers and drops the waste in the Thames but the water tank looks more awkward.

What I really don’t get is his status as an illusionist. He performs simple street magic to complete morons and natives who don’t know how to read so he gets a reaction. Those people would probably react the same if they saw a TV. Either that or he is just doing stupid stunts. Where is the illusion? David Copperfield is an illusionist. Why don’t we see more of him?

Did anybody notice that the poll was favoring David Blaine as succeeding, before the stunt? And now today the poll has switched?

Sorry, meant the thames. I live about 200 metres away from the mersey
