Daz3D Figure Not Working with Rigify Automatic Weights

Hi everyone,

I exported from Daz3D a Genesis 9 model into obj. I imported it into blender to rig it so I can change the foot pose from a flat shoe pose to a high heel pose – I’m not sure if I can achieve this more directly by other means, but alas here I am in Blender.

I created a basic human metarig and generated a rig but when it came time to Ctrl+P → Automatic Weights, the resulting Daz3 model does not follow the rig. No error message pops up, it just does not move in rigging mode.

What’s wrong? Help ! Here is the file: https://drive.proton.me/urls/GGH74DC2MR#LkH2Zym1zpS8

PS
I’ve been having loads of issues with exported Daz3D models. The blender bridge does not work for Blender 4.0 and above and every time I export it as obj, there is always something wrong like the mesh normals are reversed.

The mesh is quite dense, and gives an error when you try to parent with Automatic Weights:

You may need to weight-paint it manually.

If the ‘blender bridge’ still works in earlier Blender versions, you could download the LTS v3.6.11 version, and do the initial setup in that. Once that’s done you could open it in v4, and upgrade the metarig to a v4 version.

The “Voxel Heat Diffuse Skinning” addon can do a decent job at weight-painting dense and overlapping meshes.

How’s this? https://drive.google.com/file/d/1oM9esz95IP8XQIOyX4w4-JFnuxI_zN_v/view?usp=sharing weights aren’t perfect, but that can be fixed with a little weight paint clean up.

There’s some non manifold weirdness around most of the nails and in between some of the toes geometry is welded in a way I don’t imagine you want. In the collection labeled “Weights” there’s a version of the mesh where I gave cleaning up the geometry a shot, but the UVs (If you had any) are likely screwed up on the hands and feet of that one. Once I got the Weights mesh weighted to the rig, I transferred the weights to your original mesh.

Try using the Diffeomorphic addon for Blender and Daz (free):
https://bitbucket.org/Diffeomorphic/import_daz/wiki/Home
There’s a ton more you can do with it, including automatically setting up a Rigify rig, or an MHX rig if you prefer that.

Thank you everyone @magpie @G_De and Safetyman (sorry am a new user, can only mention 2 people)

I ended up doing the posing in CLO since it was a simple high-heel edit. Next time I will try to use the Blender Daz 3.8 Bridge as it seems to be the easiest solution for my level. Thanks so much everyone!
