Deathmatch!

Ok, right, so I’ve been thinking, it would be fun if a bunch of us set up a time to play some deathmatch in one of the open-source fps games. Nexuiz, OpenArena, Warsow, Saurbraten - one of those, or a different one, if there’s another that’ll work well. I believe they all work cross-platform, so those on linux, mac, windows could play against each other… Whatever - team deathmatch, CTF, normal deathmatch…

Thoughts?

i’m new here but i’m allways up for a good deathmatch

Warsow. We should play warsow, because nexuiz requires a rather hefty computer, the Alien Arena download servers are always swamped, and Sauerbraten is mostly just an engine, not a game yet. The fact I love wsw has nothing to do w/ it.

I have the two first installed, although I haven’t played them for a while. :stuck_out_tongue: Could be interesting… I’m always interested in a quick game of rocket launcher tag.

sure! id love to play, but ive never played any of these games before and i dont know where to get them.:frowning:

Sauerbraten is indeed not really ideal - nice engine though. Nexuiz is graphically intensive. Warsow is cool - I haven’t got it built on my box at the moment, though I’ll try and get it running now. Openarena is a fairly classic fps - fun to play.

Sounds like fun, decide on a game and i would be down.

EDIT: ventrillo (not teamspeak) would be cool too…

I’m definitely up for some Deathmatch Action… I’m very very bad at PC games, but i love to play them anyway! I always am the person who ends up with least kills and most deaths!

I bet I would own NJROTC at Counterstrike Source.

Screw OpenSource FPS games. They suck.

hahahahaaha
im in. which game?

A couple are rather substandard in gameplay perhaps, but others aren’t too bad. OpenArena is built on the Quake3 engine… Nexuiz is modified Quake1 engine… Both of those play quite well imo… Warsow looks quite nifty, it’s just that I can’t seem to get it to run on Fedora.

Anyway, you don’t have to play if you think they suck

Maybe OpenArena is a safe bet to start off with - I think it’s easier to get running and will run ok on most peoples systems. Nexuiz is good too, but it is more graphically intensive than openarena, so people would have to try it out.

Ok, so we’ll need to set a time and a date. I’m mostly free this weekend, though I might be gone for the afternoon and evening of Saturday. Also, Is there anyone here who would be able to host a server, or should we just use one of the public servers?

My vote is for OpenArena.

I’d like to play, but I don’t have any of them installed right now, and I don’t really want to DL and install if we end up using a different one. So it would be nice if we could settle on one of them.

I’ll put in a vote for OpenArena, as I think that’ll be easier for most people. I personally haven’t figured out how to get Warsow working on Fedora 64bit, as its having a problem with finding the right library files, even though I’ve linked to them, according to the instructions. Nexuiz also isn’t a problem for me if you end up choosing that. Take note that for Nexuiz, a geforce 5 series or above is recommended, though it can run on lesser hardware.

Anywho, I’m off to bed.

Seems as if OpenArena would be the best decision. My vote goes there also.

I bet I would own NJROTC at Counterstrike Source.

ive never played counterstrike, but im sure piano boy wouldnt be hard to smear all over the wall. he could play me a tune while i do it!

now, battlefield 2142… i could kick the crap right out of him!

I’ll be keen for something like that. Let’s entertain this idea further!

I strongly doubt that.

ill go steal counterstrike from my freind for a while and we’ll see…

Can I ‘borrow’ it off you for a while too ?
