You can also use GIMP to make the .gif file.
Simple best!
Just for practice i did it as an “apng”. Looks much cleaner.

That’s a interesting idea. Although I think it would maybe look a little better if you made it clock wipe out and then back in, so it would be a perfect loop.
Here you go!

I’m new to blender and i had a lot of fun messing with your blend file. My only criticism is that the wink isn’t very noticeable(probably just because of the small res unfortunately), and i think he is winking with the wrong eye, i never really thought about it until seeing this but i think people move their winking eye towards the person they’re winking at. Thanks for posting the blend file regardless!
Yea, that looks great! Much better!
Gave it another try.

I definitely like this one better.
Are you from blender ua forum by any chance?

Is this still happening, or is the plan just for the symbol to stay the same?
Ah yes I forgot about it, sorry! I’m picking the one by @BlenderTimer . With the recent performance changes you won’t see it play long, but it’ll be a nice change
@Kena I also like your version, but the background colors don’t look quite right.
Everyone else: feel free to submit new ideas too!
This one was nice
why the change ? ![]()
It was! But the original idea was to give other artists a chance to design a ‘spinner’ too and I forgot to follow through with that. This one may re-appear some day
Thought I would throw in my idea.
Here is my spinner:

I thought of many possibilities, like having many nodes being connected in a large node tree, but the mix node bar gives a good impression of loading, and progress being made.
What do you think?
@bartv, I have an idea.
Could you have a different spinner for each topic category? This would give a lot of people the chance to have their spinner on blenderartists.org .
For instance:
When I go to a topic in #artwork:traditional, it shows a spinner of the BA logo being painted. But when I go to #support:modeling, it shows a spinner of the BA logo being extruded.
It looks good! Could you make a version on a white background too?
I don’t think we should do that; it would make the experience of the site more ‘messy’ (people might not get why the animation is different for every topic) + it would be a LOT more work for me to maintain.
