Desktop Publishing software - free?

Hey folks
Is there an open source or at least freeware Desktop Publishing software around for windows? Something that does page layouts for booklets and manuals, posters, etc?

I know adobe released an older version of photoshop for free,…maybe they did the same with illustrator. Just a guess.

i was thinking more along the likes of adobe’s InDesign rather than Illustrator. But thanks for input.

Maybe Ragtime Solo is what you are looking for (only free for non-commercial use, though):

Their’s Scribus which is for Linux (and OS X via Fink).

Apparently it runs to some extent under Cygwin

I haven’t used the app under any OS, so I’m not sure how good it is.

That Scribus, i’ve seen before, but really couldnt use it because its linux. Now Im a dumbass (er…well…yeah…) I’ve got no clue what they’re on about in that link you gave me, sorry. I dont know much about cygwin or kde. But I’ll try to understand some of it.

I was looking for something that has the option of being able to use for commercial purposes (freelance work) so maybe this might rule Ragtime out. I’ll check it out though, none the less.

Thanks for input guys.

I’ve found that I can use OpenOffice Draw to do almost anything I did before in PageMaker.

I use it here at work for page layout and design stuff for our printed materials.
