Despite hours of googling and trial and error, I cannot get smoke to render

I hate to ask for someone to do something for me, but I can’t find out how to render smoke properly. I’ve searched this forum, googled, and tweaked values, but I cannot get it to work.

All the videos I found of it were removed by their creators.
I could not find an example file, so I could look at how it works.

Can anyone here either link me to an example file, create one, or recommend a good tutorial I missed?

Thanks.

There’s a blend file link with this 3 part tutorial http://cg.tutsplus.com/tutorials/blender/introduction-to-smoke-simulation-in-blender-2-5-day-1/
Using that blend without altering anything but a quick light change to increase brightness of the scene
