Dexter Morgan

Hi there!

This is my first attempt on a human portrait. I’m trying to do Dexter Morgan from the TV series.

I’m posting here a little late for things concerning modeling for example, but currently I’m looking for advices on how to improve the clothing.

For the face texture stretches, I’m fixing it right now.

Thanks in advance.

imo…:
the collar should be a slightly different material from the main part of the shirt, and maybe a tone lighter to simulate uneven fading of different materials. the scale of the ribbing on the main part of the shirt and the collar should not match, imo.
the V part of the collar seems a little thin in the X direction. the way the buttons match the edges draws the eye in an unwanted way.
if the buttons are in the middle of the one flap, the button holes should be in the middle of the other flap.
also, button holes are densely stitched around the edges, making them raised slightly.

Whoa, you have good points here.
I’ll check everything that you said, thanks a lot, it was very helpful!

I love the T.V show so much ^^

It reminds me of when louis modeled Dexter and some people of the Miami station for his game :stuck_out_tongue:

Looks very cool

The clothes material is a bit too glossy imo.

Hey guys!

First of all, I’m sorry for this long time without response. I had some problems and a huge workload here, and this project was stopped as well.
But now I’m back and trying to finish this one (it’s time to move on :P).

So… thanks for the responses, and as you can see, I made some adjustments and moved to hair grooming. However I guess there’s still some weird stuff with the shader of the collar details.

Anyways, let me know what you guys think!!

it’s coming out pretty darn good. though at this stage he looks remarkably like Randy Couture. Probably the baldness atm.

Hi, I agree, it’s coming out damn good ! We can recognize the man at first sight, it is a great point  keep it up

The eyes should be widened in the top-bottom axis and the eyebrows should be raised a little looking at this reference

Wow, this is great. Just finished season six and have to wait a long time before seven due to availability. Now I wanna start again.

Hi guys!

First of all, thanks a lot for the comments and critiques.

chop_suey: interesting obs.! I’ll check it out and see if I can tweak a bit in the sculpting, thank you very much.

Right now I’m trying to make the hair without sucess (at all). I spent something about 12hrs but the results don’t look very promising.
I’m almost in a deadend, so I’m here asking for help and suggestions.
First, this is the result I got so far. Please don’t look too much for the shader since it’s not my major concern right now:

Ok. I followed Kent’s approach for hair and did hair groups by hand trying to follow the hair flow of my references, as you can see (I also shared the children parameters):

This was the first “layer” of hair, trying to make the main volume. I also started to try doing those small pointy groups, but I stopped and did a test render to check it before wasting too much time.
It looks like this + children parameters:

And that’s it.
I’ll wait and read each of your comments and suggestions, and maybe stop this project (again) before having some insights. I’m enough glad with it to ruin the entire piece with an awful hair rendering :stuck_out_tongue:
