Did I translate this sketch well into 3D?

I think the essence of the character is there overall. However, I have to warn you about 2 issues that would make rigging and animation difficult.

  • The angle of the thumbs. If you look at your own hand in a relaxed pose, you will see that your thumb is actually placed at a different angle than the other fingers. Also, it’s not in line with them, but is instead placed lower, offset from the plane of the hand. This can clearly be seen in the drawing and needs to be modelled into the hands, or else it will be very difficult to rig and will deform poorly.

  • The feet look shorter and stubbier than they do on the drawing. This will limit their deformation range and ability to be posed.

I think it looks great! Especially the “hair” thing at the back. I agree with etn249 in that the shape of the hands will lead to some difficult rigging and then a) weird deformations or b) tricky posing. The only aesthetic critique that I have is that the neck arms and ankles on the reference image are all a little thinner than you’ve modeled them to be. To be fair, can’t actually see your neck. But definitely the arms and ankles.

Yeah think you got it pretty well.

On the sketch the eyebrows and mouth are in black— the mouth disappears a bit on your model, maybe if it was black it’d show up better?
