I have noticed the modeling tools are different in each one. My question though is, if you made the same exact model high poly lets say of some in depth detail, with lighting and textures. would each program have a different look of that scene? or would there be differences? I know theres Vray, mental ray and so on, but I’m saying if those 3 programs did the same tetxtures, molding and so on, would the look be the same?
They would look different because of the render engines.
However,someone experienced enough can make results look almost identical if they have enough knowledge of each render engine and how to get the result they want.
Results from blenders built in 2 render engines (Internal and Cycles) give completely different result but with enough know how you can basically fake it so it looks like it was rendered in another render engine.

I have been messing around with all 3 trying to learn and i noticed, well for me Blender and Maya feel the same by it’s navigation. 3dmax feels a lot different, also the beveling looks more defined in Maya and Blender compared to 3dmax when I am prating modeling. So it is different because of the render engines and the different software? is that why say, WALLE the robot from the movie if it was made with Maya , it would look different compared to Blender and or 3DMAX? or like you said, it also depends on the skill? it seems in Blender and Maya the bevel and and texures make the mesh more define or real, unless you use vray with 3dmax. If it’s modeled the same, and has the same textures, then the render engine is pretty much all that will be different. So yes.
The smoothing differences between programs isn’t really that big. Keep in mind those Wall-e images are completely different models, some with sharper or smoother geometry. There are some minor differences in the smoothing algorithm used, but for all intents and purposes I’ve never seen an example of smoothing/beveling that couldn’t be easily mimicked in another program.
Take note that all 3 programs also have different rendering styles for their OpenGL 3D viewports. So a model being created in Maya, looks different in the viewport from a model being created in blender’s viewport.

Seriously though, if you’re working professionally, it would be worth it to spend that sort of money on 3D Studio, it’s a big industry standard from what I can tell. On the other hand, Blender is being looked at / used more and more by professionals now that it’s
matured so much from it’s 2.49b days. Still, I would imagine a profesional, at least one looking to be employed by a company might need 3DS in their toolkit.
Blender on the otherhand is a godsend to those who aren’t pros, but just like tinkering with 3D modeling, and more and more, working prefessionally with it is just a bonus.
Blender is by far the best choice for the hobbiest. Unless you’re loaded it would be a waste to buy 3DS unless you’re going pro.

Yes.
The render engine is responsible for textures/materials/shading. So different render engines mean different looking textures.

Trying to understand the similarities and differences between Blender, Maya, and 3DS Max can get pretty confusing. Skywolfblue said it best: If your models, textures, and lighting are identical, the only factor would be the rendering engine.
The big thing to understand about these 3D softwares is that any result created in one can be created in another. All three have similar modeling tools or a combination of tools to mimic what the other software can do.
I guess the answer is: The rendering engines would spit out slightly different looking images, but it’s moot if you have the know-how behind manipulating the engine’s settings to produce the look you’re going for. I hope that helped answer your question further.
