Differences in colors between render preview in viewport and rendered image

Maybe I am missing something very basic but when I compare the render preview in viewport with the actually rendered image I can see an obvious difference between those two when it comes to the color. I have no clue what may cause this. I’ve checked the output settings for color management but they are the same as in the render settings… Can somebody give me a tip?

Render preview in 3d viewport:

Render result

Settings color management
colormanagement settings in render

It looks like you have a light visible in the render that is hidden in your viewport

I am sure that this is not the case. I changed the view transform to AgX and the look to Very high contrast and after that the colors looked like in the screen - before it was “no” for the lock and Filmic for th view transform and it looked then like it now looks in the finished render

One is a preview, the other is a final render. One doesn’t always match the other. Thats why one does test renders, and makes adjustments if needed.

You’ll find quite a bit of discussion on this, look for the AGX threads.

but when one first has the same result in preview and in final render and after changes in color management settings one has a differing result (where the render does not seem to change so much) one hopes that there is something to really change the render result. I wonder why I should change the color management settings when it just changes the preview and not the final render result so much?!

I can see a light visible in one but not the other just from your screenshots, with the tree:

So I am quite sure that you do have lights visible in your render but not in your viewport

There’s also ornaments and light strings, a wreath… your viewport is wildly different from your render, so maybe make them the same and then we can diagnose better?

Yea that is a big difference, it looks like a Global blueish light, so my guess is that render is using a different world shader. Maybe a blue sky hdri or similar.

oh man… you’re completely right and I feel a little bit dumb. I added a blue area light to have a more winter-night feeling and in the viewport I hide it during some steps to not have the plane in my view all the time… too many buttons and settings for me sometimes :grinning: THANK YOU

thank you for this tip, this helped me really to see my problem! You’re absolutely right, I’ve added a blue area light which was disabled for the viewport but not for render!
