displacement mapping and STL's for 3D printing

Hello

I’m pretty new to blender and am attempting to create a vase with a ‘Wooden’ surface using a texture and displacement mapping.

I have the displacement mapping working fine in the render but cannot get to to translate over to the psychical model with the aim of creating an STL for 3D printing (it’s instead just coming out on the STL as the basic vase shape with no texturing effect)

I have not had much luck finding an up to date online tutorial to take me through this. Please can someone help to tell me how to achieve this effect on the edit mode of the model so it can be exported as an STL?

Many Thanks.

If your model does not have high res mesh add a subsurf modifier. Then add a displacement modifier set to use the displacement map. When you export enable the Apply Modifiers option in the export settings
