DJV Viewer 3.3.3 is out

It’s pretty fresh :

Features include:

  • Support for high resolution and high bit depth images
  • A/B comparison with wipe, overlay, and difference modes
  • Timeline support with OpenTimelineIO
  • Color management with OpenColorIO
  • Multi-track audio with variable speed and reverse playback
  • Experimental support for USD files
  • Available for Linux, macOS, and Windows

I think it got all my feature wishlist !
I used MrViewer these last years mainly because it supports sound, but I like more the minimalist approach of DJV…

Enjoy !

that’s nice! is it possible to install it? i though i downloaded the installable but it’s a portable version

You’re on linux ? On earlier version there was a .deb package but yeah it’s a portable version like blender. I don’t bother installing it the proper way… It goes into a directory with various apps related to CG. One alias in my .bashrc later and everything is fine

Maybe they’ll provide package eventually… Since it’s a full rewrite and the project has been inactive since a long time it’s hard to tell what will be going on now …

I have ver 2.0.8… installed through .deb package. Looks like I will have to do some fiddling around as well in the bashrc

I will have to check this new version out! So far looking on the site it looks like a good upgrade.

My thing is RenderMan, it does have it’s own image viewer that comes with it called ‘IT’ actually  , which is nice and all but when it comes down to reviewing actual footage of my renders DJV is my go to app.

Ok ! I didn’t look into windows binaries but yeah it looks like there is no installer…

Anyway, the 2.x series was a complete rewrite of the 1.x series and it looks that they totally rewritten the 3.x again…
So maybe installer and some corner smoothing could be expected for the next releases.

However, I must say that I didn’t find a good free option for image sequence viewing. And DJV3 seems to fill that gap for me. Maybe at some point being able to annotate frames could be cool but playing sequence with sound, comparisons is pretty good already…

there is also rpm package  for RHEL people. EDIT sorry for Pureref there is RPM.

but DVJ runs on RHEL fine also

Support for OpenColorIO so i can view my Agx sequence with it, i guess. Awesome, thats the only reason why i used mrv2.

What would be the difference between mrv2 and djv3?

mrv2 works well too, it has more options and the UI isn’t IMO as polished as DJV"s…

It’s worth testing both to get a feel of each one and see what fits best your usage.

Was faster in my memory and it was not resizing the window when i drag something in it was very comfortable.

The ui is cleaner and nicer too.

Anyone still have the exe file or something equivalent to share? The github page is returning a 404

Edit : Found a link that worked

DJV’s language (non-English) problem doesn’t seem to be solved.
In DJV 3.2.1, access to files or directories on non-English paths conflicts. :smiling_face_with_tear:

Try this! https://seqtovid.privatetools.org
Plays jpg or png sequences in realtime, right in the browser, up to 60 fps, no installs. Export to mp4/gif/webm. Fullscreen mode, etc

Welcome :tada:

i’m not sure if everyone is happy to upload their content to some website to just download it again to watch it… even in “realtime”… could be done “much faster” locally… :person_shrugging:

Thank you! You don’t upload a content anywhere, it’s all processing locally. It’s like a local app, just working through browser

Okay… haven’t checked that…

Edit: also totally oversaw this one

Well I tried it and while it’s good it’s kind-off missing the point of a tool like DJV.

DJV is a tool for CG artists to review their work, therefore it comes with a tons of features that you would expect from such a tool.
If that’s the goal of your app then there is still a lot of work for that to be useful…
If that’s not the point then we’re basically discussing two unrelated things, so maybe start a topic to discuss that if needed or if you have questions !

In the meantime, we are now at DJV 3.3.3 :

No radical changes or killer feature but steady fixes and small improvements !
