I think it got all my feature wishlist !
I used MrViewer these last years mainly because it supports sound, but I like more the minimalist approach of DJV…
You’re on linux ? On earlier version there was a .deb package but yeah it’s a portable version like blender. I don’t bother installing it the proper way… It goes into a directory with various apps related to CG. One alias in my .bashrc later and everything is fine
Maybe they’ll provide package eventually… Since it’s a full rewrite and the project has been inactive since a long time it’s hard to tell what will be going on now …
I have ver 2.0.8… installed through .deb package. Looks like I will have to do some fiddling around as well in the bashrc
I will have to check this new version out! So far looking on the site it looks like a good upgrade.
My thing is RenderMan, it does have it’s own image viewer that comes with it called ‘IT’ actually , which is nice and all but when it comes down to reviewing actual footage of my renders DJV is my go to app.
Ok ! I didn’t look into windows binaries but yeah it looks like there is no installer…
Anyway, the 2.x series was a complete rewrite of the 1.x series and it looks that they totally rewritten the 3.x again…
So maybe installer and some corner smoothing could be expected for the next releases.
However, I must say that I didn’t find a good free option for image sequence viewing. And DJV3 seems to fill that gap for me. Maybe at some point being able to annotate frames could be cool but playing sequence with sound, comparisons is pretty good already…
Try this! https://seqtovid.privatetools.org
Plays jpg or png sequences in realtime, right in the browser, up to 60 fps, no installs. Export to mp4/gif/webm. Fullscreen mode, etc
i’m not sure if everyone is happy to upload their content to some website to just download it again to watch it… even in “realtime”… could be done “much faster” locally…
Well I tried it and while it’s good it’s kind-off missing the point of a tool like DJV.
DJV is a tool for CG artists to review their work, therefore it comes with a tons of features that you would expect from such a tool.
If that’s the goal of your app then there is still a lot of work for that to be useful…
If that’s not the point then we’re basically discussing two unrelated things, so maybe start a topic to discuss that if needed or if you have questions !
In the meantime, we are now at DJV 3.3.3 :
No radical changes or killer feature but steady fixes and small improvements !
