Does making ASSETS dislike Parent>Children objects?

I’ve seen that assets are a work in progress since 3.0 but my base question is about having to JOIN everything so it drags and drops right when I use it from my asset gallery or library. (Please be lenient with the terminology!)

I want to leave the blend something I can change - I model in curves and mesh and parent happily so I can adjust things as needed (i.e. I might make a wrought iron frame café chair this way so I can thicken or thin parts in seconds). It’s only given me grief though when I pull one of my objects as an asset - so, am I setting up the asset wrong or do assets just not accept Mesh/Curve Parent/Child complex objects in or out of Collections?

Is there a reason why you don’t want to make collections containing all parts of the asset?
