DOF

can blenders render…er do depth of focus? or do i have to delve into the deep dark realms of YAFRAY. i must admit, i find the thought rather intimidating…

Take a look at this tutorial.

there are a few more ways located at

(I use a modified motion blur method)

wikkid, thanks guys.

using yafray’s easier and will get you better results.

Not really, since the current dof method in yafray is basically the same as using the zblur plugin in Blender.

okay, i followed the <rather vague> instructions at the zblur plugin website, but still nothing. i just get an incredibly fast render of a black screen. im pretty sure it has something to do with frames and stuff, but im not doign an animation, i want to do a still. what am i doing wrong?

Zblur plugin works only for Blender < 2.25 (AFAIK) Look for the ‘MBLUR circle’ trick for doing DOF

Stefano

I can only get plugins to work in 2.23, not 2.25 or 2.26

The ‘MBLUR circle’ as S86 put it is the most accurate, but it’s also the most confusing of the methods.
Another way of doing the same effect (with still more accurate results than ZBlur plugin) is similar,
[>] Place an empty at focal point
[>] Track camera to empty (select camera, then empty, [CTRL]+[T] then select camera and press [ALT]+[R])
[>] Give camera dLocX IPO -0.1 at frame 1, 0.1 at 1.5, -0.1 at 2, set to cyclic
[>] Copy to dLocY and dLocZ offsetting by 1/3 frame each time
[>] Turn on MBLUR with bF on 1.0

Note that it uses the dLoc IPOs rather than the Loc IPOs so the camera can be anywhere, even moving in an animation

eh i just do the smae except ut a circular path in and parent it to that!!!

MUCH QUICKER than doing it the hard looking way

:o i havent a clue what you guys are on about, ill think ill leave it for now and come back later, thanks for trying guys.
