dog

Hey all you blender peeps out there!
I am working on a cartoon dog for an animation and would like some feedback on my model.
If you have any ideas for correction please try to add tips on how to do it.

nice dog, looks rather square though.

Thanks for your feedback lightbulb
How would you sugest me fix it?

I would make his body more round like a hot dog and his legs more into an oval shape. If you’re willing to start over, I would start with a cylinder for the round hot dog shape and go from there.

It would depend on the personality of the dog what shape to ultimately make him. This “square” looking dog looks as of he would be a fighter or a guardian type.

Thanks, dleri, but he will acctualy be a kindof clumsy dog that talks and works for “jacks snack shack”. I will try to make him more round like you said and post up some more pics tomorow.

Lets see his tail, I wanna sniff his but.

*butt. Very nice little dog. However it would appear that your legs and body are seperate objects. Bad. Join them. Also the shape is somehow off. Compare a dog from all angles to yours.

acctually they are all one object but i cant figer out how to make the joint smother
any tips?

*k- Why not use an armature? Be better not wobbling about with no joints.

no no no im saying where the leg part connects to the body
the legs and body are all one but it looks boxy and seperated cuz i modeled the legs sepratly and then just ctrl + j to join them

It looks like a toy dog haha ;D
I don’t know if that’s what you were going for but it’s still neat. :]

Post a wireframe of it.

here you go

Awww. There’s your problem. You have 2 different meshes. I might actually delete the legs. You should try as much as possible to model all from the same mesh instead of pulling together meshes. The meshes are cleaner that way and much easier to work with. Trust me!

ok ill try that and get annother post up like later today or tomorow

well ive tryed to model it out of the same mesh but it looks really bad
when i added the legs they looked ok but now when i was trying to rig them up they looked terible!
could i just do somthing to keep the legs i have but make the intersection more smooth?

here i used the smooth tool in sculpt mode and i think it looks better… not perfect but deffenintly an improvment

It all depends on what you want to do. If you were modeling a toy dog for Toy Story XLVII, then the approach that you took (in either the first or the second render) would be very appropriate, because we know that such toys are made of modular parts, snapped together. On the other hand, if you want to model it for Pinocchio, (“a real boy”), you’d need to put a continuous skin on it. One way to do that might be to “shrink wrap” another mesh on top of what you have, so that the objects you now have would act more like “musculature under the skin.” Once again, it would basically look like a toy dog, but a different kind of toy. It all depends on what you want to do.

if you imagine snoopy from peanuts in 3d but almost always on all fours
a better idea if you ever watch weta kids (tv channel) and you see martha speaks that is what i am going for but a guy
