Hi Ronnie, could you please give some informations on the archiviz picture? How did you set the background, is it just a textured plane or are you using the Cycles background feature?
Thanks!

Cycles?! No Cycles…
The render is just a plain old BI render. The sky is just a plain old cg textures sky. I also used z-mist to soften the horizon a bit.

Oh My God! I thought it’s a photo! Great work, dude!

Thanks, that was intention, and I think it turned out rather decent.
I was trying to recreate this photo that I took yesterday:

I was baking Christmas cookies and decided to make a Blender one.

Was messing around with this Pin Art model. The lighting needs touching up!

The first of this looked fine last night with the lights off, but this morning I’m seeing that it’s way too dark.
And BA’s white background is pretty bad for it too.

A quick bit of texturing practice done with gimp and texture paint, along with some materials settings.

A little yafaray test I cooked up. Who was it that said we don’t need normal maps? :smiley:

@MadMinstrel
I like this scene a lot. Interesting. The render too.
Does yafaray supports normal maps? The last time I tried, it didn’t. It was converting nor to bumps.

Yup, Yafaray supports them as you can see. The whole scene is just one mid-poly normal-mapped, sculpted cube, minecraft style, with a single 2k normal map - I was just playing around :). ~3.5M polys for the whole scene. Rendered in SSPM mode with 2M photons per pass, 25 passes. Took a couple hours on an old quad core, volumetrics and everything, but it would have looked fine with just 4-5 passes - I just set it up and went shopping. If I turned off the volumetrics, it would probably be done in 30 minutes or so for the HD render. I suggest you try it out, it’s really nice.

One bug I came across in case you try: normal maps don’t work on instanced objects for some reason. Just shift-D instead of alt-D.

made this playing around with glare node and Motiva RealCamera… which I think somebody ought to implement these features in the compositor… but it’s interesting to try out different types of “film”

Nice Kemmler!
