Doodles

I love that water material. Looks very good.

Here is a room I put together for a lighting test. Its not suposed to be ‘architecturally correct’, thus its in the doodles thread.

Hey,

Here’s my little interior test…

http://img398.imageshack.us/img398/3901/interiorrenderes1.jpg

Nothing too good really… The render time took an impressive 30 min…

Settings AO 15 samples and a Constant QMC sun light- soft size 2, samples 15…

No .blend available… sorry but my file got accidentally deleted…

Kroni, your blends are sweet and really informative thanks for sharing. Can I ask something stupid? I suck at room modeling and wonder what method you use to make a simple room.
The interior scene has a cube volume with beveled interior faces and a window. Did this start as a cube or plane primitive, or did you build it up point by point? I’m just wondering whats the best way to knock up a room as a basic cube seems to let light in from the edges.

thanks in advance.

Just a little test on my poster image…turned off osa and then rendered at 2X the size and then scaled it afterwords…gives it a more crisp look.

I like DoF and arrays and AAO and nodes, so shoot me.

A Yafray render test:-

Mainly a lighting colour test. If I remember rightly, the glass is from Turbosquid.

Hey,

Here’s another of my little tests:
http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/6986/picturerz6.jpg

Render time 33 min…
Basically just a test…
Anyways heres the blend:

Organic: Your image looks good, but because of the glass and the water whit in, the shadow should be different… You probably know what I’m talking about…

Fort Ash

@David McSween, could you possibly provide a linky to a dof tutorial? i have been trying for some time now to achieve dof but have not been able to at all.

@Organic, nice render.

@fort ash, that suppossed to be a soldering iron? great modeling!

I too would be interested in a good DoF tutorial. I can’t find anything online, of course I haven’t been through all of them yet…

I found a DOF tut that I liked, thought I would share it.

thank you very much, scdelf. looks like a very good dof tut. Kudos. thanks for sharing.

Hey,

@radialronnie, yes, and thanks!

About the dof…
There is a better way with using the defocus node. Here’s how you do it:
Click on the camera and under the edit buttons select limits,
This will show you the camera’s direction and will also help you further,
Now as some of you have noticed there is a dof distance,
As you increase the distance a yellow cross travels along the camera’s direction.
Set the cross to an object you want to focus on,
Now go to Node Editor and Use Composite nodes.
Add a Defocus node and a Blur node, and connect them as followed:
http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/8710/nodescx0.png
Un click the Preview and the NoZBuffer button on the Defocus node,
Under Blur node select Gaussian and Blur x = 5 and y = 5,
Now set the Value of the Defocus node, fStop to somewhere 10,
As that is done you must just play around with the values:
On the Defocus Node:
-fStop
-MaxBlur
On the Blur node:
x, y

For those of you who don’t understand.
I’ll post a blend later on this day.

Fort Ash

hello, i see the thread is quite active lately

you’ve inspired me to play a bit with dof and effects around dof, and here’s the result  DoF made with Defocus Node + slight Lens Distortion, for more details check the .blend file and ofcourse if You have any further questions, just ask

Street Dof (Vimeo) + .blend file

and a render with less aggressive DoF applied:

Hey Kroni, are you using a build with Blenders new sun/sky patch or is it a homebrew lightdome you are using?

i’m using the official 2.47 Blender, it’s just AO + sun lamp + some node magic

Hey,

About my recent DoF post…
It’s messed up…
Basically you should focus the camera as said, but the nodes should look like this:
http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/7272/nodesow5.png
And there’s all there is to it…
Sorry for the mess up…
Anyways the blend file is attached for you to test it out…
And Btw the file is an official example from blender.org… So credits go to BF.

@fort ash, i don’t see an fStop property on the defocus node. any ideas??

You have to have No Zbuffer off
