Dragon ruin

Hi, this is my entry into the CG Boost - Mythology Challenge.

I chose the theme of a dragon, I like how does this topic of dragons flows among mythologies from Greek, through Nordic, Slavic, Germanic, Eastern civilisations and so on. We can find them under various names such as Dragon, Drak, Šarkan, Zmey, Smock, etc.

In this work I focused on the theme of a three-headed dragon, based on myths about serpentine Zilant and three-headed Zmey Gorinich. Dragon’s appearance is based on the legends of Eastern European Dragons that have their origins in the snakes called Zmey - Viper, so my dragon has a serpentine body and overall look.

The idea of the project is a fight between a dragon and a knight for a sacrificed beauty. In this case
it is a dragon who was settled somewhere in the dusty basement ruins of the Eastern Roman Empire. Where people were afraid of dragons. For their fear of it that dragon destroy them, they sacrificed a young virgin once a year to a dragon. Until one day appeared in the ruins a fearless young warrior from the Varangian guard, he was accustomed from the north to the dragons, and in the hard fight to the three dragons heads he killed the dragon and saved the beautie.
Only the idea

All my work is created using Blender version 3.0 rendered with Cycles X rendering at 12000 samples for clear and no denoised deformed volumetrics.

Cycles render - final image

Raw render

Clay render

Studio viewport

For this work, I used the Manuel Bastioni-Lab addon for character modeling, the vegetation is from the Botaniq addon, Cell Fracture addon for pillar destroy.

Blender compositor for some tweaks, Krita for color correction and Darktable for final touches.

Merry Christmas everyone :christmas_tree:and stay safe

Very nice work, it looks like the serpent has already eaten a number of humans trying to kill it. I am guessing this guy may be the next to fall.

While it is not a completely unique entry in terms of the concept here, it is obvious that this is another entry where the artist sat down and really worked out the details.
