It’s a blazing hot and dry day in the dense and overgrown jungle far away. Almost no cloud is in the sky to cast a cooling shadow over the land. The sun is about the set in few hours but until then it burns down and makes the colorful butterfly thirsty for the delicious and sweet juices inside that alluring colorful flower growing at the end of the wild whirling vine. Thrusting his thirsty tongue into the toothsome tube and getting a terrific taste makes him hilariously hazy in the head and he buzzes bright in colors but he likes it and has no intentions to leave any time soon. What you see is nothing compared to what our little butterfly friend sees inside his mind while he is still sucking the sap of sacred sarcifice!
To see some Work in progress Short check out this thread here on BA:
After the second time the music plays through, I wrote some music that is longer than the short animation, so I might showcase that as well, it is fitting after all, I just didn’t render more frames to have more video together with the music… and to go overboard with creativity there is also a different endscreen animation that’s worth to be checked out!
This whole animation is a remake of a very similar animation I made 3 years ago where I got the basic idea done but just did something for the colors on the wings. With more experience in making kaleidoscope animations it feels like I kind of know what I’m doing, and like it was always supposed to be like that. Also the older version was rendered in EEVEE on a very weak computer, now this artwork is translated to cycles and rendered on a more powerful PC. The materials look even better with cycles raytracing.
If you want to see this colorful animation in 4K feel free to support me on patreon or just donate some credits for a renderfarm as my PC heated my room while rendering this already and it is peak summer currently, so naturally I’d love to outsource that!!!
Audio and Visuals by TripTilt (also the sfx :))
rendered in blender 4.2 (but started 3 years ago with blender 2.93!)
The butterfly model is by luxxeon3d:

With quite some work by me on those textures!
I modified the free version of Creative Shrimp’s Dust Particles for the floating stuff.
Big thanks to Burt Veracruz for being such an inspiration!
