Dual Hybrid GPU ( 3090 +2080ti) is possible

Hello everyone and thanks for your time.

Actualy I use blender on PC with RTX 2080ti installed on an MSI x470 gaming plus equipped with multiple GPU slots (not SLI).
I am thinking to buy an RTX 3090 and I was wondering if I can also keep the 2080ti to use them at the same time. In use with the render optix, I ask myself if the performances are equal to those of the lower gpu or if it is independent from this.

thanks
Franco

Haven’t used optix but if the render is tile based, both cards will work at the same time. Each one will work on a tile separately.

They will work similar to a mining rig.

thank’s a lot for your answer, Armand!

Welcome to BA

You should know that your VRAM will not increase with two GPUs unless you use NVLink

Thanks, so it could be cheaper to install the second 2080ti (considering that I already own one) in NVLINK and obtain performances comparable to a single 3090. I ask because already owning a 2080ti,
buying a second used one and upgrading the power supply cost about half of a single 3090.
