dynamic shadows with level of detail?

is there any setting or way to make a shadow be very high quality near you and lower when you get farther away? (preferably using a sun lamp)

The reason why it was never complete is that Kupoman ran into some unforeseen complications in how the implementation was going (ie. being harder than it looks), that is one reason why he’ll likely wait until he gets his incremental rasterizer rewrite project done first.

I wonder what Kupoman’s been doing lately, it’s been a while since he’s been on the forum, I think Moguri might know because I think they’re from the same household.
